Dining guides / Siena
Siena has hills, lanes and a table culture extending beyond Piazza del Campo. When choosing where to eat, look at the differences: a trattoria for lunch, a neighbourhood osteria or more elaborate cooking for dinner. We have collected ten addresses in the centre and along Via Camollia, with practical information and sources to consult before booking.
This 500G editorial selection is based on researched cooking, documented history and neighbourhoods. It includes trattorias, osterias and restaurants. It is not an absolute ranking or a report of team visits or tastings.
What to eat in Siena
Pici are a good starting point, but not the only one. Ribollita, pulses, meat, cured meats and seasonal recipes offer different ways of eating Tuscan food. Ask how a dish is prepared, what it contains and what is available that day. For wine, start with your chosen food and ask the house for guidance.

1. Antica Trattoria Papei
Address: Piazza del Mercato, 6.
The official menu presents pici, including aglione and cardinale versions, alongside fresh pasta and Tuscan dishes. Piazza del Mercato makes it a possible stop after exploring the Campo. It is a direct starting point for anyone interested in a pasta course. Check the current menu and book through the trattoria’s contacts.

2. Bagoga — Grotta di Santa Caterina
Address: Via della Galluzza, 26.
Bagoga is associated with Pierino Fagnani and the Grotta di Santa Caterina. The venue describes Tuscan traditions and produce from the Terre di Siena. We include it to explore that relationship, not to promise identical dishes in every season. Start with the official menu and ask what best represents today’s cooking.

3. Osteria Le Logge
Address: Via del Porrione, 33.
The Convention Bureau Terre di Siena documents its opening in 1977 by Gianni Brunelli. This is a restaurant with exploratory cooking, selected ingredients and a substantial cellar: a different register from a quick-lunch trattoria. Consider it when you want to give dinner more time and attention. Read the menu to set appropriate expectations.

4. La Taverna di San Giuseppe
Address: Via Giovanni Duprè, 132.
The restaurant describes historic rooms and cooking joining Tuscan tradition and creativity. Consider it for a more elaborate dinner rather than treating it as a simple osteria. Its website says official reservations go through the restaurant’s telephone number: use that channel and confirm the menu.

5. Osteria Nonna Gina
Address: Pian dei Mantellini, 2.
Siena per Noi describes home-style Tuscan cooking. Keep it in mind when your walk passes through Mantellini, away from the immediate Campo route. The offering is our reason for selection; we do not assign unconfirmed dates or specialities. Call for dishes, opening days and tables.

6. Trattoria La Torre
Address: Via di Salicotto, 7.
Close to the square, this address is listed by Siena per Noi for typical Tuscan cooking. Investigate it for lunch while visiting the centre. The consulted information does not establish a founding date or an unchanging menu. Speak directly with the venue and choose from the day’s offering.

7. Osteria di Castelvecchio
Address: Via Castelvecchio, 65.
The website describes Sienese recipes alongside innovative preparations in the old part of the city. Consider it when continuing beyond the cathedral towards Castelvecchio. The selection concerns its current cooking, not the age of the neighbourhood. Check the house menu before planning your stop.

8. Osteria Il Vinaio
Address: Via Camollia, 138.
The official site presents an osteria and grocery with seasonal cooking, ribollita, pulses and garden vegetables. Consider it for everyday Sienese table culture along Via Camollia. Some directories give a different street number: we follow the venue’s own address, to reconfirm when booking. Ask what is being served that day.

9. La Sosta di Violante
Address: Via Pantaneto, 115.
The website presents a seasonal Tuscan menu, with pici and capocollo ragù among its references. Via Pantaneto lets you continue exploring the centre beyond the square. Compare it if you want recognisable recipes with the house’s interpretation. Confirm the menu and availability directly.

10. La Compagnia dei Vinattieri
Address: Via delle Terme, 79.
The Convention Bureau Terre di Siena describes reinterpreted Tuscan cooking and a broad wine cellar. It is a restaurant, presented as such: this guide includes more elaborate tables alongside trattorias. Save it if wine and a new reading of tradition matter to your dinner. Ask the house about bookings and the menu format.

Choose your next stop
Start with your area and the time you want to give lunch. Compare the current menu, not just the name. For groups, allergies or dietary needs, speak with the venue before booking: vegetables or meat-free pasta alone do not guarantee the absence of allergens.
Should I book?
Booking is useful at weekends, during events and when time is limited. Use official contacts, confirm the time and tell the venue if plans change. For the bill, check the current menu, cover charge and wine price. For meat priced by weight, ask about weight and cost before ordering.
